BSN Annual Conference - 2009

We invite you to BSN2009 in Edinburgh, UK  from the 28th to the 30th June. We have an exciting scientific programme lined up, representative of UK neuroendocrine research, and several opportunities for oral and poster communications of your research. This meeting will be a good opportunity to promote your research, encourage young researchers in the field and enjoy the Edinburgh social scene.

 

Venue

The conference will be held at the Centre for Integrative Physiology at the University of Edinburgh, located in the Hugh Robson Building (HRB), George Square. The Registration Desk will be open from 6pm until 8pm on Sunday 28th June in the HRB foyer. This will coincide with our Welcome Reception in the common room on the first floor of the building. The Registration Desk will also be open on Monday and Tuesday during the meeting

Accommodation

Accommodation will be available at Pollock Halls, the University of Edinburgh student halls of residence on Holyrood Park Road. This is approximately a 15 minute walk from the conference venue in George Square. These rooms can be booked for the conference at the same time as your registration.

Please note we have a limited number of rooms available. If any rooms are still available after the registration deadline (29th April) then they may also be booked but at a higher charge due to steep cancellation penalties. Please contact the registration team directly to book a room after the 29th April. By the same token, if any accommodation is cancelled after 29th April, a 50% cancellation fee will apply.

There are many nearby guest houses and hotels that you may wish to use, in which case you will need to reserve them yourself and pay them directly.

 

Scientific Programme

    • BSN Annual Plenary Lecture - Julian Davis;
    • Mortyn Jones Memorial Lecture - David Grattan;

    • Symposia on
      • Obesity and Metabolism
      • Reproduction and Stress
      • Cellular Neuroendocrinology

     

    The BSN is keen to provide extensive opportunities to facilitate our 'early career' colleagues and so have included opportunities for oral presentations both within the symposia and in an oral communications session, as well as prolonged poster sessions. Additionally there will be the Michael Harbuz Prize for Young Investigators, which we encourage people to apply for.

    NB: the BSN Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held on Monday 29th June at 5.15pm

    Please note: Edinburgh Neuroendocrinology have also organised a special symposium in honour of Professor John Russell, who was BSN Chairman earlier this decade and has been a frequent and enthusiastic contributor to the BSN. This Festschrift will be held the day immediately after the BSN meeting finishes on the 1st July 2009.     Social Programme

    We invite you to the Welcome Reception on Sunday evening in the Hugh Robson Building, George Square, from 6pm to 8pm. From there you may like to find a nearby restaurant or bar for a meal and further socialising. We will hold the Annual Conference Dinner on Monday evening from 7:30pm at Vittorias, George IV Bridge, Edinburgh

    The above events are included within the registration fee.

    If you are staying on in Edinburgh for the Russell Festschrift, Tuesday evening will be free for you to explore the city and the Festschrift Dinner will be held on Wednesday evening at a charge of 35 (book via Mike Ludwig or Lauren Gerrard).

     

    Abstracts

    Abstract submission is available online. For details on abstracts prepration and submission please see the abstract webpages. After the deadline, some abstracts will be selected by the local organising committee for oral communication (submission deadline is the 29th April).

    Michael Harbuz Price Lecture; a special award will be made to a Young Investigator in Neuroendocrinology. Please encourage your colleagues to apply as part of the abstract submission process. Further details on this award, please see the abstract webpages.
